Andy

Andy is our newest member arriving the end of September after the death of his owner. He had spent a period of being fed by a neighbour but left in his home. At 12 years old he arrived with a bad ear infection, eye inection and servere flea infestation. Now treated his is on the road to recovery and settling into life with us. One of our active seniors he enjoys longer walks but is also equally happy sitting on one of the sofas having human attention.

Cheyene

Beautiful Cheyene was living a bit wild, in the woods, with her owner and 5 other dogs, until her owner fell ill and couldn’t look after his dogs anymore.
She is over 13 years old (we’re not exactly sure of her age), but in relatively good shape! Very thin on arrival, she’s enjoying being fed several times a day and we’re hoping she’ll soon gain weight. She’s living with Colin, Primus and Mitch and already doing a great job keeping the boys in line!

Colin

Colin (TheCollie) arrived at Dawn & Dusk as a foster dog for Les Amis des Animaux, after months of wandering in our area.

It appears his owners died and Colin was abandoned or just wandered off and nobody cared enough to look for him. He was in a terrible state when he arrived, weighed only 12 kgs, had a bad skin infection and was very lethargic. He soon gained weight and turned out to be a very beautiful Collie, but he has a few serious health issues; deafness, severe hip dysplasia and a heart problem. Since he seemed to love life at D & D, and he will never be able to lead the active life a young-ish (he is estimated to be around 8 years old) Border Collie should have, we decided to adopt him so he can lead a quiet life with us. He is a lovely boy, gets along with everybody and is very popular with our volunteers!

Primus

Primus ended up in a refuge at 11 years old, after a crappy life with an owner that threatened to shoot him if the refuge wouldn’t take him!

Enough said about his past,..

Amazingly enough, dear old Primus still loves to be around people! He leans into you, and tries to be as close as possible while resting his beautiful head on your hand and looking at you with eyes that say Please Love Me,…and we do!! To meet him is to love him, instantly. He came to us very, very thin, but still full of life and we look forward to feeding him the very best food, seeing him flourish and return to the state he should have been in at this age; that of a well-fed, beautiful, cherished old boy! He has had a cancerous testicle removed, so we are hoping that that was the only problem he had and will be able to nurse him back to health quickly!

Mitch

Mitch is the last dog to arrive at Dawn & Dusk, only 1 day after Primus. He is an abandoned hunt dog, found and taken to the refuge, where he spent 4 years living on concrete. A kind lady fostered him for 9 months and took him to us to live out his last years in peace and quiet. For the moment, he is scared and needs to be left alone, which we respect and we’ll wait patiently for him to come around, or not, and adapt to his needs. He is living with Kim and Primus, as he seems more comfortable being around dogs than with people. He is in good physical condition and should have some good years ahead of him!

We hope he’ll eventually be able to enjoy attention and cuddles, but for now, we just provide him with a safe, calm environment, a soft bed and lots of food and treats.

Dolly

Dolly is our second official permanent resident, though she has been with us for 5 months already, in foster care.

Dolly was living ‘wild’ and was trapped and put in a refuge. She was pregnant and traumatised, but fortunately for her, Les Amis des Animaux took her under their wing and placed her with us in foster care. She had her pups (2 of which are still living with us because they are visually impaired and need a special home) and slowly learned to trust us, but that’s as far as she will go, we think. She has had a very rough life and probably many bad experiences with people (a bullet in her knee, for starters,.), so she will stay with us for the rest of her life! For us, she is wonderful; cuddly, smart, loving,..

She will be in her own space, away from strangers, where she can live in peace and quiet and still be close by.
